Day 01
Arrive and discover the Temples of Dambulla & Sigiriya
Welcome to Sri Lanka! Your first day will be spent exploring the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dambulla. The sacred cave temple complex dates back to the 1st century BCE and houses some of the country’s most important religious artefacts. You will get to wander through a series of caves and marvel at the gilded interiors, dramatic murals, and an incredible collection of holy statues, including a 47-foot (14-meter) reclining golden Buddha. The temple’s rocky clifftops also offer sweeping views across the surrounding forests and countryside. In the afternoon, you will make a short drive north to Sigiriya, where you will check in to your hotel for the night.
Day 02
Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress & Minneriya National Park
In the morning After breakfast, you will be exploring the ancient city of Sigiriya, which is a rocky monolith rising high out of the lush jungle. It is home to the remains of an ancient fortress built in the late 5th century CE. The name “Sigiriya” translates to “Lion Rock”, which refers to the way visitors traditionally began their final ascent to the top of the monument, passing through the open jaws and throat of a lion. However, the only remains of this lion figure today are the gigantic paws sculpted into the side of the rock. After lunch, you can head to Minneriya National Park, which is a vast preserve of forest and grasslands, located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa. The park is home to elephants, leopards, sambar deer, and langur monkeys. The great Minneriya Tank reservoir, created by the Anuradhapura civilization over 1800 years ago, is at the heart of the park and its peaceful shores are the perfect place to observe herds of elephants and flocks of storks.
Day 03
Tour the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
After Breakfast in the morning, On the third day of your Sri Lankan adventure, you will spend the night in Kandy, the capital of the Central Province. Located between three mountain ranges, Kandy is known as the gateway to Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. In the morning, you can visit one of the traditional villages on the city’s outskirts to learn the art of fan-making from local artisans. The Sesath, handwoven fans and sunshades, are a symbol of prosperity and a vibrant relic of Sri Lanka’s royal history. In the afternoon, you can explore Kandy’s historic Royal Palace. This palace features shrines, temples, and gardens, along with Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The ancient temple complex, dating back to the 16th century, holds Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic, a tooth from the Buddha.
Day 04
Relax on the Beach in Bentota
After Having Breakfast, Your next destination is Bentota, located in the southwest, and famous for its golden beaches, calm seas, and miles of pristine coastline. There are numerous water sports activities to choose from, including scuba diving in the coral-rich waters, deep-sea fishing on a traditional outrigger canoe, or windsurfing on gentle waves. In the evening, indulge in the local cuisine with a dinner of freshly caught seafood and watch the memorable sunset over the Laccadive Sea.
Day 05
Sightsee in Galle & Depart
Your last day of the trip will begin in Galle, which is the bustling provincial capital and administrative centre of the south. You can take a leisurely stroll on its palm-lined promenades, explore the exquisite circular cove of Unawatuna Bay, and walk the ramparts and narrow alleys of the 17thcentury Dutch fort that serves as its old town.
